The Netflix series “Black Mirror” explores issues related to increased use of technology and the problems technology presents in our lives. The season 4 opener, USS Callister, gives us a look at a technology nerd who is the CTO of a company that develops an immersive video game. Apparently he feels powerless in the real world and slighted by his co-workers, so he develops an off-line version of his game that uses recreations of his co-workers developed from “creatively obtained” DNA. These off-line characters develop an artificial sentience, which creates an interesting nuance to this off-line, immersive video game.
This episode is probably my favorite one from all four seasons. Cristin Milioti absolutely steals the show, but the entire cast is amazing. 5/5 stars.
