Florida Gators Top 5 Plays of 2015

The 2015 season was both a pleasant surprise and a disappointment. Few prognosticators foresaw the Gators finish 10-4 with an SEC East championship. The first half of the season was truly magical, starting with Will Grier leading the Gators to an improbably upset of the #3 Ole Miss Rebels. The Gator offense climbed to #20 in the nation until Will Grier was suspended for improperly taking over-the-counter supplements on the NCAA banned substance list. By season’s end, the sputtering offense dropped from #20 to dead last and the inept special teams further exacerbated the Gator free-fall into a three-game losing skid. Despite the negative aspects of the season, there are plenty of signs of life in the home of the Fun N’ Gun and the Urban Attack. Here are the top plays from 2015 to give the Gator hopeful more hope in 2016:

  1. Thri11 at Ben Hi11 9/26/2015, Will Grier to Antonio Callaway. Florida faced a 4th and 14 at its own 37 yard line, only minutes after Tennessee kicker Aaron Medley missed an easy field goal that would have ended their losing streak against the Gators. At the snap, Grier fired a bullet to an inexplicably open Callaway at the Tennessee 45, who then spun around, got the sideline, took advantage of a Brandon Powell block that mowed down two Vol defenders at once and raced untouched to the end zone for a miraculous, unbelievable, incredible, jaw-dropping touchdown that gave Florida its 11th straight win over the Vols. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqqeHdz-hsA
  2. Hardin’s SEC East Clinching Kick 11/7/2015, Austin Hardin boots 43-yard, game winning field goal. Florida kicker Austin Hardin nailed a 43-yard field goal to help the Gators beat Vanderbilt 9-7 and lock up the SEC East. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dztneo0kCUA
  3. To Hell With Georgia 10/31/2015, Treon Harris to Antonio Callaway. With a 6-0 lead, Treon Harris rolled to his left, and lobbed a bomb to Antonio Callaway, who slowed down just a little to catch the ball in stride and take it to the end zone. https://youtu.be/sXEdo0oMBvo?t=1m51s
  4. Stripping Driskel (The Other One) 11/21/2015, Antonio Morrison strips Jason Driskel. In the third quarter, the Florida Gators desperately needed a spark after being stuck in a low-scoring tie game with lowly Florida Atlantic. Morrison stripped FAU QB Jason Driskel (yes, Jeff’s brother), and Taven Bryan returned the ball down to the goal line in slow motion. Kelvin Taylor finally pounded the ball into the endzone two plays later. https://youtu.be/NvHxL7cQUI0?t=2m28s
  5. Anytime Antonio Callaway Touches the Ball. Callaway had some great plays as receiver and punt returner against Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, and Alabama. Pick your favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXEdo0oMBvo
