Spacecraft escaping the Solar System

image

Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, Voyager 2, and New Horizons are racing out of the Solar System at over 11 kilometers per second. Voyager 1 is the furthest out and has been in interstellar space beyond the heliopause since 2012. Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are still operating and are expected to do so until their radioisotope thermal generators run out of fuel in 2025. Pioneer 11 lost contact with Earth in 1995, and Pioneer 10 lost its communications with Earth in 2003, so their missions have effectively concluded.
