Ciatrick Antione Fason is the last Gator running back to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark in a season. He played tailback for Ron Zook‘s Florida Gators from 2002-2004. In his junior campaign, he rushed for 1,267 yards on 222 carries and caught 35 passes for another 266 yards for a Gator 4th-best 1,533 yards of offense in a season. He was named to the AP first-team All-SEC team and an honorable mention All-American, as well as the Gators’ MVP and Fergie Ferguson Award winner.
“If you ain’t a Gator, you must be Gator bait!” Lawrence D. Wright III is remembered for leading the crowd in that cheer after the Gators won the 1996 Bowl Alliance national championship. Lawrence played safety for Steve Spurrier’s Florida Gators from 1993 to 1996. He was on the SEC Academic Honor Roll all four years of his career. As a team captain, he led the defense in its national championship year on the way to earning the Jim Thorpe Award and 2nd team All American honors in addition to 1st team All SEC honors. He was later named to the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame and the University of Florida Athletic Association Hall of Fame as a Gator Great.
