Triple wine review: Beaulieu Valley Coastal Estates Merlot, Jip Jip Rocks Shiraz Cabernet and Bogle Petite Syrah Port

image

Beaulieu Valley Coastal Estates Merlot has generous red fruit aromas. The BV Napa Valley Merlot is loaded with flavors of cherry and blackberry; smooth finish. Some spice. When the spice is on, this is a 5/5. In the wrong year, this is less spicy and is a 4/5.

“The outstanding 2009 Jip Jip Rocks Shiraz/Cabernet boasts a deep purple color in addition to super-ripe mulberry and boysenberry fruit interwoven hints of cedar box, pepper, and underbrush. An opulent, voluptuously textured red with beautiful density and purity as well as a succulent style, it should drink nicely for 4-5 years.” The 2010 version is a little less distinct as of 2012. 4/5.

Bogle Petite Syrah Port is a “truly a hidden gem … a wine that is completely “off the radar”.  Given the small production of only 3,000 cases, plus the limited availability, you would be remiss to pass on the opportunity to try this amazing California Port.   This wine is super concentrated, however, it has a balance of flavor that tastes of fresh red and black fruits dipped in milk chocolate.” Great as a chaser to the previous two–a liquid dessert. 5/5.
