Audrey Martin Smith was born 25 August 1926 in the tobacco fields of Mullens, Oconee Country, South Carolina and grew up in what is now called Clio and Dillon. She “found a million dollar baby in a five and ten store” during World War II while he was escaping artillery training at nearby Fort Bragg. She married that million dollar baby, Marion Francis Kilar, on 25 November 1945 in Dillon, South Carolina. She took care of two of the cutest kids on earth, Walter and Larry, for a short while in the early 1980s and forever made an indelible impression on those boys (except for the whole eating vegetables thing). Mother. Grandmother. Teacher. On 3 August 2007 she passed away in her home of 35 years, in Pensacola, Florida. I love you, Grandma.
