Cubicle Warrior’s Picks – UFC 126: Silva vs Belfort

Main Card

Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort (UFC MW Championship) – Two counterpunchers with devastating knockout power. Look for the Spider to wake up from his funk and come guns-a-blazin’ so he can set up a match against GSP later in the year. KOTN.

Forrest Griffin vs. Rich Franklin (LHW) – Coming off a broken arm, Franklin might not be 100%. Then again, a healthy Forrest Griffin has not been 100% against high-level fighters lately. I love Forrest, but I do not see him getting past Franklin without improving his game…a lot. I hate watching Forrest’s head bounce off the canvas 30 times a second with another fighter pounding him, but I do look forward to the funny comments from him after a loss. UPDATE: Forrest just got his black belt in BJJ and is larger than expected compared to Franklin. Maybe this fight will be closer than I predicted earlier.

Jake Ellenberger vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha (WW) – Jake has explosive power. Carlos probably does not. Americuh! **** yeah!

Ryan Bader vs. Jon Jones (LHW) – Jones is fun to watch, but Darth Bader’s wrestling, explosive power and ginormous neck muscles will prevail over the unorthodox Bones Jones. The man beat Lil’ Nog…with his neck muscles! The man cannot punch, because his own muscles get in the way! Look for Darth to beat Bones with his pectoral muscles before finishing him off with the ol’ neck muscle punch. Bones may throw a few surprise elbows at Darth, but those will bounce off the forehead muscles and just land Bones in a bad position.

Antonio Banuelos vs. Miguel Torres (BW) – Watch this match in slow motion in order to catch it at normal speed. Look for Angel Torres to knock out Banuelos (Spanish for little bathroom where bantamweight fighters to go cry after getting their faces bashed in) in about 2.2 femtoseconds. FOTN.

Preliminary bouts

Paul Kelly vs. Donald Cerrone (LW) – No Ben Henderson or Jamie Varner? Look for Cerrone to win in a good one. Cerrone somehow manages to eke out ugly wins against anyone not named Henderson or Varner, or impresses the heck out of you with a dominating win over a nobody. Note 1: Paul Kelly = a nobody. Note 2: Paul is British. Americuh! **** yeah!

Chad Mendes vs. Michihiro Omigawa (FW) – When in doubt, choose against the Asian fighter. UPDATE: That is the meanest looking Asian fighter I have seen enter the octagon in quite a while. He will look a lot less mean after getting knocked out quickly.

Gabe Ruediger vs. Paul Taylor (LW) – When in doubt, choose the American. Americuh, **** yeah!

Demetrious Johnson vs. Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto (BW) – Again, Americuh, **** yeah!

Kyle Kingsbury vs. Ricardo Romero (LHW) – Flip a coin…it’s the prelims. Tails! You win, Romero!

Mike Pierce vs. Kenny Robertson (WW) – Oh. One more fight to pick. Eenie, meanie, minnie, moe….Pierce, you win!
